Agenda

WSD Tech Department - Ryan James Technology Coordinator - Introduction took place about Ryan James who is replacing Quinn Henderson. Mr. James explained that the goal is to have all teachers Google Certified although mention was made that technology cannot replace teachers. He shared that all students need to go through digital citizenship. A lot of our council monies go towards our technologies. All traffic (internet) goes through iboss within the district for web filtering. He suggested that parents use chromebooks issued from WSD as they will have better filters than personal laptops.

Ryan reviewed WSD policies on a variety of websites including Pinterest, Twitter, etc. that are always filtered. Training for students is crucial in digital literacy. WSD teaches this through Common Sense Digital Literacy Curriculum in eight areas that are age-appropriate.

Within the next two years, all schools will be 1-1. The vision is that technology will be used in future careers and WSD wants to prepare students for this task. Teachers can give students a variety of ways to express their knowledge through technology. Teachers can teach content and then have students take ownership of their learning. Co-teaching, collaboration, and creativity take place in the classroom via technology.

Teachers (ed tech coaches) are at every school to share and support how to implement ideas and lessons that teachers can use in their classrooms.

Implementing and sustaining blended and digital learning - No questions were posed on this topic. Mr. Nestoryak mentioned how students at NOE are targeting skills because of the resources we have.

Trustland Budget Overview - Presented by Bonnie Nelson. (see attached)

2020 Trustland Goals - Goal 1 Reading is to increase overall K-3 DIBELS proficiency score by 4% from the previous school year. Goal 2 is a math goal based on our SAGE assessment scores. SAGE questions and tools are the same as RISE. As a school, 3-6 grades take the test. NOE exceeded district and state on SAGE scores. Proficiency goals vs Growth goals were discussed. Sharon Brown suggested that a growth goal may be more empowering as there are students who may never reach a proficient goal due to disability or other factors. Phil suggested that teachers share growth scores with their students.

NOE will have a Reading Uniform Growth Goal of 80% in K-3. Tier 1 interventions will include Stephanie Harvey ToolKit, Readworks, Read Naturally, Time for Kids, etc. Americorps will not be here next year. Those monies could be used for an aide.

Mr. Nestoryak suggested that we will get together next time and discuss specifics on the budget. E-mails will be sent about the specific costs of reading aides, monies of technology and a proposed allocation of funds for next year.
